Gaelin Elmore.avif

Gaelin Elmore

Founder & CEO

Gaelin Elmore, CSP, is a nationally recognized keynote speaker, consultant, and trainer who helps leaders and organizations build cultures where people truly belong.

A former NFL player, Big Ten Scholar-Athlete, Wilma Rudolph Award recipient, Certified Speaking Professional (CSP - a designation held by fewer than 700 speakers worldwide) and a 2024 Marquis Who’s Who honoree, Gaelin brings a powerful combination of lived experience, research, and practical leadership insight to his work. Gaelin’s story has reached more than 100,000 people since delivering his first keynote to over 2,000 people as a sophomore in college. For more than eight years, he has partnered with organizations across corporate, nonprofit, education, and government sectors to strengthen leadership, workplace culture, and team connection. His clients include organizations such as Target, Circle K, Molson Coors, the National Children’s Alliance, and the Child Welfare League of America.

The struggles of Gaelin’s early life have profoundly shaped the way he sees the world today as a speaker and leader, but most importantly as a husband and father. Through compelling storytelling and actionable insights, he equips leaders to create environments where people feel valued, trusted, and empowered to do their best work.

Gaelin and his wife, Micaela, live in Minnesota with their four children, where family life continues to shape his perspective on leadership, belonging, and the impact of everyday moments

Morning Breakout Sessions
  1. Trauma and Children: Understanding and Managing Big Behaviors          Children often communicate fear, stress, and unmet needs through their behavior. This workshop helps participants understand how trauma can affect a child’s brain, emotions, relationships, and ability to regulate behavior. Participants will learn to look beyond challenging behaviors, identify possible triggers, respond with empathy and consistency, and use practical trauma-informed strategies that promote safety, connection, and healthy emotional regulation.

  2. Trauma and Teens: Foundations of Relationships and Commitment          Trauma can significantly influence how teenagers view themselves, relate to adults, manage emotions, and respond to expectations. This workshop explores the importance of relationships, trust, and consistency when supporting adolescents who have experienced trauma. Participants will gain strategies for understanding behavior through a trauma-informed lens, setting clear and appropriate boundaries, responding calmly to conflict, and creating the safe, dependable relationships teenagers need to heal and thrive.

  3. Viewing Parents Through a Trauma-Informed Lens                                                          This session explores substance use and parenting through a trauma-informed lens, with particular attention to the effects of unresolved and intergenerational trauma. Participants will examine how drugs and alcohol may initially be used to cope with emotional pain but can progress into a chronic disorder that changes brain chemistry, impairs decision-making, and reinforces avoidance of underlying trauma. The overall goal is to move beyond asking why someone would choose substance use over their children and toward understanding what responses are helpful rather than harmful.                                   .

  4. Shared Parenting: Working Together for the Children                                                        In the Illinois child welfare system, shared parenting is a collaborative approach between foster parents and birth parents. It promotes the active involvement of birth parents in their child’s life, medical care, and education while the child is in temporary care. The presenter will explain the DCFS shared parenting procedure and moderate a panel of participants with lived experience. Attendees will examine the benefits, challenges, and goals of shared parenting.

  5. Court and DCFS Processes Explained                                                                                    This session provides a practical overview of Illinois juvenile abuse and neglect proceedings and the relationship between the juvenile court and DCFS processes. Participants will examine the roles of the judge, attorneys, DCFS, CASA/GAL, caseworkers, foster parents, birth parents, and other stakeholders throughout the life of a case. Designed for parents, caregivers, child welfare professionals, service providers, and court stakeholders, the session explains legal terminology, court procedures, rights and responsibilities, and the progression of a case from petition and shelter care through permanency and case closure.

  6. Wraparound Services: Child and Family Team Meetings That Work                      Effective Child and Family Team Meetings bring families, service providers, caregivers, and other supports together to develop a coordinated plan centered on the family’s strengths, needs, and goals. This workshop explores strategies for creating meetings that are collaborative, purposeful, and family-driven. Participants will learn how to encourage meaningful participation, establish clear roles and shared goals, navigate disagreements, build on family strengths, and develop practical action steps that promote accountability and lasting progress.

  4. Effective Communication in Difficult Times                                                                            When emotions are high, even simple conversations can become difficult. This workshop explores practical strategies for communicating clearly, calmly, and respectfully during stressful situations. Participants will learn to recognize emotional triggers, practice active listening, reduce defensiveness, de-escalate conflict, and respond in ways that strengthen trust and promote productive conversations.

  5. Relationships That Change Lives                                                                                                         Every interaction has the potential to change a life. This session explores how relationships can create safety, connection, healing, and resilience—especially for children and adults affected by trauma. Participants will reflect on relationships that have made a difference in their own lives, consider how trauma can shape connection and child development, and explore practical ways everyday interactions can promote healing and felt safety.

  6. Managing Vicarious Trauma                                                                                                              Professionals and caregivers who regularly support individuals experiencing trauma may begin to carry the emotional impact of those experiences themselves. This workshop helps participants recognize signs of vicarious trauma, compassion fatigue, and burnout while exploring practical strategies for maintaining emotional well-being. Participants will learn how to establish healthy boundaries, build resilience, access support, and develop a realistic plan for ongoing self-care.

THERE IS POWER IN COLLABORATION

The Resilient Families Conference was made possible through the dedication, partnership, and shared commitment of many individuals and organizations who believe in supporting children and families. We are grateful to everyone who contributed their time, expertise, and resources to create a welcoming space where people could come together to learn, connect, find encouragement, and gain valuable support.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to the Tracy Family Foundation for their generous support and vision. Their investment made it possible to turn this idea into reality and bring our community together around a shared goal of strengthening families and improving outcomes for children.
